I listen to my team, and I listen to my readers.  You love the books, but you want more responsible editing.  Well, we’ve got a team of intern editors.  We have a team of great beta readers.  We’ve got Karen, who is the godmother of all my books.  However, we all agree that I need an additional editor to clean up the manuscripts more.

My husband and My sister…

Latrivia’s Round House Kick

So, I have two very special people in my life. My husband is my best friend and my sister is my best friend, and together they are the same side of the same coin. But, they never listen to me. They always bust my ass when I try to be soft and gentile, though it’s not my nature. What should I do about them? Should I shoot them? Should I hug them? Should I ignore them? Time will only tell.

All I know, is they are the most honest and loving people that God has ever given to this world. They always make fun of my (1) awesome round house kick (2) my ideas of how to make a family feel loved (3) my fashion sense. They may be right on two of the three, but I’m certain that I’m absolutely right on one of those issues, just not sure which of the three.

To be serious, ladies and gentlemen, life is short – shorter than we ever imagined. To have people who are willing to walk with you every step of the way is a blessing. Hold on to those people and those moments, because you never know when it will all end.

P.S. I can’t live without either one of them.

Dear Fans,

Well, I’ve been offline all day, hoping to bring this book to you before my midnight deadline to keep my word of a drop date on Sunday.

Two hours before midnight, I don’t think it’s going to happen.

My first knee-jerk response was to give you another date, but I can hear the wisdom of my team begging me not to. What I can tell you is that the book is complete. We are working to make sure the final product is the absolute best that we can provide.

This is all on me. No one is else is responsible. I should have allotted more time Wednesday when I made the announcement, but I was eater to please. Lesson 1 of all of this – don’t over promise and under deliver. What I can assure you of, is that it will be out soon. I’ll send out a communication after we have pressed PUBLISH and after the book has gone LIVE. I’ve been getting emails all day, but I have not been able to respond, because I’ve been working.

Thank you, however, to everyone for being understanding. So many texts came in from fans telling me to take my time, do it right, they’d be waiting, they’d support me. About three hours ago, I got on my knees and prayed. But I also had to thank Him for surrounding me by such love. Thank you again. I’m on it. I have to get back offline and work. I won’t be sending emails or on FB or social media until we go live. But I also didn’t want you to think that I’m just ignoring you. Trust me. I do it all for you. As many of you know, I lost my grandfather on the 11th of this month, and we buried him on the 21st. I needed time to grieve, and I needed time to help my family. I don’t want my work to suffer for it, so I won’t release it until we are finished editing it sufficiently. Sunday should be enough time to do the trick. Celebrating the Life of My Grandfather, Rev. Ivory Artis, Sr. (May he rest in peace)

I bet Daddy’s mansion is going to be huge! I know he’ll be there watching westerns, fixing a feast of BBQ and his famous baked beans and making the angels laugh with his thousands of stories when I get there. I can see his face, bright and warm with a toothy smile, walking around in perfect health and ready to show me around.

…words cannot really express how I feel about my grandfather, Ivory Artis, Sr. Trust me, over the last few days, I’ve tried to find them, but there are none grand or wonderful enough to describe his smile, his voice, his warm eyes or his huge heart.

Everyone who knows me, knows that I called him Daddy. Since the day that I was born, he has been there for me. I lived in his home and was nurtured under his large protective wings. But he was never selfish with his love. There are so many people who share the same bond of knowing a man who always wanted the best for everyone around him.

For 37 years, Daddy was there to be everything for me. He loved me unconditionally and taught me how to be a good person, scolded me when I was a bad person, and never passed judgement. He wiped my tears, chased away my fears, made me feel like a giant and a princess. I was blessed to have had him in my life, and I am not alone.

On October 21st, we will commit Rev. Ivory Artis, Sr. back to the earth during his homegoing celebration. If you have known him or have known the Artis Family, I humbly extend the invitation to celebrate his life with us.

Yes, I am so very sad to see my father leave this Earth, but I rejoice in knowing that Heaven truly has a special man added to their ranks.

No more pain. No more worry. No more earthly concerns. Let us celebrate a man who exemplified what is was to be a kind, generous, loving servant of God and an amazing man.

Are You Reading Anatoly’s Retribution: Book One This Weekend?

The book is finally out. After a few months of haggling with myself to get it done, I finally released Anatoly from my clutches. I have to admit that it’s hard. You grow so close to the characters until the manuscript is never really complete in the author’s mind. I could re-edit, rewrite for the rest of my life on the Medlov Men and never find a stopping point, because I enjoy it so much.

Alas, I have worked through my desire to keep this project close to my bosom and given my baby to you – for your personal entertainment.

So, now my question is, what are you doing this weekend. Outside of all the other things we have to do – soccer games, homework, dinner, weddings, hitting the gym, grocery shopping, laundry, quality time with the family and loved ones, etc. – I truly hope that you’ll be reading my book as well.

So far, I’ve received nearly 100 emails from our Quill Pen readers who have already read the book. They want to know when the second part of the book is coming out, because in the past I have been notorious for disappearing for months after a book drop. Well, not now. I’m back, ladies and gents. And Book Two will be released on November 1st. It will also be $3.15.

The second question that seems to be very popular is will all the questions be answered in the second book that arise from the first book. The answer is ABSOLUTELY! I love giving you a firm foundation and understanding of the characters and their state of mind before we get to the action and adventure of it all.

Only three chapters left and I’m done with Book One. But here’s a little excerpt from Anatoly’s Retribution: Book One.

Right behind where Anatoly stood mulling over his next move, a shiny black S-Class Mercedes Benz pulled up to the curb, and the driver, a Russian man with a low buzz haircut, jumped out and opened the back door for his boss.

A tall blonde man emerged from the back seat donning a tailored tuxedo under a black wool coat. He immediately noticed the young man standing on the sidewalk in a pair of jeans and light jacket too flimsy for the fall weather, but Anatoly didn’t notice him. He was too focused on the huge oak doors in front of him.

Snow crunched under the man’s Italian leather dress shoes. A deep baritone interrupted the silence. “Are you looking for someone?” Dmitry asked, stepping up on the sidewalk.

Anatoly turned around and ran his gaze up to the 7-foot giant’s piercing eyes. Flakes of snow landed in the man’s blonde curly hair and a gust of wind caused him to tug at the top of his coat. He looked down at the boy with ice blue eyes that seemed to burn straight through him.

Anatoly swallowed hard and cleared his throat. Digging in his hands down in his pants pockets, he answered. “I’m looking for Dmitry Medlov.” He stood up straighter. Something about the man, demanded it of him.

“What do you want with him?” Dmitry asked curiously.

“Kirill Derevenko sent me from Moscow,” Anatoly explained, noticing the driver’s posture tense. The driver didn’t bother to hide the guns under his jacket or his suspicion of the boy’s presence. Anatoly glanced back up to Dmitry, hesitant to blurt out their familial connection so quickly. “He said you were expecting me.”

There was a brief awkward silence.

Dmitry’s smooth tanned face finally lit up pleasantly with a toothy smile. His high cheekbones were rosy. “Kirill! Yes, he is a very good friend from back home.” He winked at Anatoly. “I’m the man you’re looking for.”

Are you a Medlovian?

In what order should I read the Medlov Books?

First, thank you for your interest in the series that started the Russian Mafia Romance genre. I promise you that you won’t be disappointed. The Medlov Family is a fictional look into one of the most complex clandestine societies that the Russian culture ever gave to the world. Currently, there are three series around the Medlov family: The Medlov Crime Family, The Chronicles of Young Dmitry Medlov and The Medlov Men.

The Medlov Crime Family consists of four books and I would recommend reading these first.

• Dmitry’s Closet (2010)
• Dmitry’s Royal Flush: Rise of the Queen (2010)
• Anatoly Medlov: Complete Reign (2011)
• Saving Anya (2012)

Each of these books introduce the characters who will continue to play a role in shaping the world of the Medlov empire and family.

The next group of books to read would be the Chronicles of Young Dmitry Medlov. They are a look back at Dmitry Medlov’s life from the time of 18 up until the transition of his life when he became the Czar of the underworld. There are so many questions answered in this series. We see the relationship between Ivan and his brother grow and wither, the introduction of beloved bodyguard Davyd, intimate relationships between al the main characters and the birth of many of your favorite bad boys. I am still working on Volumes 8-12, but there is plenty to read in Volumes 1-7.

I’ve designed them to be stand-alone books with full explanations, so you’ll never be lost.

High-risk pregnancy leads to cancellation of all events during pregnancy

 

(January 13, 2017 – Memphis, TENN)  It is with great regret that I must cancel my appearance at Blue Saffire’s March Madness Event at Wild Dunes Resort in South Carolina.  Currently, I am proudly pregnant with my third child.  However, this is a high-risk pregnant.  Per my doctor and family, I am following orders to stay on bedrest and limited travel.  It really pains me to have to cancel on my friend and colleague, Blue Saffire and the other authors who will be attending.  But I want to encourage all of my fans and friends to still attend this wonderful event on March 23-25, 2017.  Thank you in advance for your understanding and your prayers.

Also, speaking of Dmitry’s Closet, it’s still on the Amazon’s Bestseller’s List. I’m so honored and so proud of your support.  You know, when I first published this book back in January of 2010, no one was writing bwwm mafia books.  So, people took it with mixed emotions.  I got my butt handed to me on a few of the reviews, LOL, but the overwhelming consensus was that readers wanted more and encouraged me to continue on this road, developing the Medlov Crime Family.  Here we are six almost seven years later, still doing what we do.  I’m in the process of working on two new Medlov books: Anatoly’s Retribution and Dmitry’s Redemption.  (I have the “R” thing going there).  Anyway, the reason that we are here is because of YOU.  You paid the money, spread the word, suggested the book to friends and in your book clubs, sent me emails of encouragement and most of all you believed in me.   I love you all. I remember when I first sat down in front of the computer to write Gabriel’s Regret.  I knew that I wanted to tell a story about a man evolving and what mental processes he would go through to become better than he was. Turning a Beta into an Alpha.  Not easy.  As I started my outline, I realized that every day, it grew more and more.  I had one idea after another and my team and I talked continuously about what would be best and what would be entertaining.  After all, that’s my job – to entertain my readers.

But Gabriel was special to me.  He was a hybrid of all things Medlov and all things Hutton.  We saw his backstory in The Chronicles of Young Dmitry Medlov and why every single thing that was happening to him was important not just to him but to the entire Medlov Family.

So once the outline was complete, the characters developed, the plot tweaked and the notes laid out, it was clear.  This book had to have two parts.  The first part had to tell Gabriel’s personal story of where he had come from and how pivotal meeting the beautiful black woman, Valeriya Nenya, had been in his life.  I wanted my readers to enjoy their relationship, understand their turmoil and just have a good time with one of our new characters, Nadei, before we moved to Book 2.

Book 2 is after the “big scene”.  I don’t want to give too much away, but we pick up with Gabriel and see him strengthened as a man, but we also see him outwardly change and challenge his surroundings.  Valeriya is a major part of this story because she meets the family and she meets Briggy.  Plus, she goes to war for her man.   There is also so many others to consider like Dmitry and his own developing story, Royal and her ambitions, Anatoly and his desire to keep his own family close and now we see a new and improved Vasily.  The entire family comes together in Prague to show out.  Of course, some of our secondary but very exciting characters are back like Boris and Marat.  There are several explosive scenes in Gabriel’s Regret: Book 2 that are just too awesome for words.  It’s action packed and full of plot curveballs, but it won’t make the least bit of sense if you haven’t read Book 1.

I am very proud of this book, because I took my time and told the story that I wanted to tell for Gabriel, but I was also able to give him a bw/wm relationship that was passionate and concrete.  With Valeriya and Gabriel, I think we have a winner.

The Synopsis of Gabriel’s Regret

Gabriel Medlov has lived two very different lives in his 30 years on this earth, mostly because of his very different parents & paths.

Gabriel’s mother, Emma Hutton, was born into British royalty with billions of dollars, but after her mother married the rugged Russian mobster, Dmitry Medlov, and gave him her inheritance, she denounced her family and became a freedom fighter, spending most of her life in the trenches of third-world countries fighting for the oppressed until her untimely death.

Gabriel’s father, Ivan Medlov, was a lot less selfless – a reputed Russian crime boss, the brother of Dmitry Medlov, and a rabid sociopath, he spent his life running guns, women and drugs until his nephew, Anatoly Medlov, murdered him.

With parents on two far extremes of the spectrum of good and evil, Gabriel was born right in the middle and spent most of his life as a second-string beta.  Until now.  After a series of bad events, the brooding, six-foot-nine, black-haired, blue-eyed, safe bet is on the verge of self-actualization or self-destruction, only he doesn’t know it.

All Gabriel does know is that his normally level-headed thinking and cool exterior are starting to give way to a much more violent and vocal monster that may or may not have been lurking below the surface for many years.

After a major fall-out with his live-in girlfriend in front of the entire family, Gabriel is sent from the palatial confines of the Medlov compound to the war-torn country of Ukraine to oversee a large munitions deal worth millions of dollars that he and his cousin tanked a few days before.  For Gabriel, this trip is a test to determine what kind of man he is turning into, for everyone else it’s a rest from an ongoing domestic squabble.

When Gabriel arrives in the Ukraine, he is met by militia who are fighting a regional war on an international stage.  As Russia shifts its focus to Syria, its military forces are being pulled out of the Ukraine.  This allows for a very small opportunity to take back part of the ruptured city of Donetsk, but they can’t do it without his guns.  Ready to business as usual and get back to the states, Gabriel is transported and introduced to the head of the militia – Valeriya Nenya.

The music stops.  The world stops.  Gabriel’s heart stops.  Who is this black woman and how did she just still his heart?

Born into a life of poverty and hate, Valeriya Nenya, is no princess.  She is, however, fighting not only against the Russians who want to come in and take over her country but also Neo-Nazi separatists who have been terrorizing the country from within for years. With access of munitions and other aide cut off by the outside world, Gabriel Medlov and the Medlov Crime Family becomes Valeriya’s only hope to winning this war.

Deciding to stay a few days in Ukraine to gain Valeriya’s favor, Gabriel is forced to imbed with the militia until he can convince Valeriya and her money contacts that the Medlov Family is the right fit for their fight.  While he is there, he is forced to see the world from a very different lens.  Third world poverty, extreme racism, violence and starvation take on a whole new meaning as he discovers what Valeriya is fighting against.   He also, for the first time, sees what his mother died fighting for.  Only, with his father’s blood and his family’s trade, Gabriel discovers what he was possibly made to do and the movement and woman who will shift him from being a beta in the world of Medlov to an Alpha in a world of regret.  But at what cost does this epiphany cost?
